Felted Hare Head

Born and bred in South East London, I went on to enjoy a 50 year career in education, teaching in the UK and several countries across the world.

I spent time out in Nigeria where I took a keen interest in African art; the shapes, colours and textures were so vibrant and the stories behind the pieces fascinated me.

African art inspired me within my own teachings, I would help children to create African inspired art within the classroom. My teaching journey led me to Aberdeenshire, Scotland, it was here that I first took up ceramics and sculpture, and it was here that my creation of animal sculptures began.

Upon retirement I ventured into experimenting with textiles and found a technique called rag rugging, an art I’d seen my grandmother do in my youth. I joined a monthly rag rugging group, where I met other artisans. One of whom introduced me to dry felting and my interest blossomed from there.
