All of Jean's work is hand built using a stoneware clay. After a high bisque firing the work is then decorated with underglaze colours and a matt glaze before being refired. Most of the pieces are embellished with nichrome wire and tacs and sometimes further enhanced with gold leaf.
A Little Bird Told Me
Jean is a ceramicist based in Guildford, Surrey. She is known for her unique hand built, figurative creations inspired by a number of themes including childhood memories, novels, and myths.
She is intrigued by the many layers that make up the human persona and this is reflected in her masked faces and anthropomorphic figures.
Her aim is to produce emotive pieces which carry a loose narrative that is open to interpretation.
Jean gained a BA hons in Art and Design, Ceramics from West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham, (now UCA Farnham), and primarily exhibits her work at major ceramics events throughout the UK, as well as some galleries. She has private collectors in the UK, Australia and the US.
