Silver Birch and Fox

David Mayne is an artist who creates sculpture for homes and gardens as well as large scale architectural interventions in the public realm.

His work is in collections throughout the country and his small scale steel and wood pieces are in constant demand by leading galleries and collectors. 

David has a lifelong passion for nature and landscape - from early days of climbing and hill walking to mountain biking and fell running. 

He lives on the outskirts of Holmfirth near areas of stunning woodland and wild and beautiful hills and moorland. The work he creates is a response to this landscape and other wilderness environments he has encountered. Figures or animals are often combined within the work to create a sense of scale and place. 

“I’m lucky enough to live near a number of large areas of woodland and these are a constant source of inspiration. The animals I combine in my work not only define scale - They are like capturing a memory. When you encounter a deer or a fox in the landscape they are usually just a fleeting sight – blink and they are gone”
